New Metallocene Waxes for Compounds and Thermoplastic Concentrates SPE-CAD RETEC 2004

The compounding example for using waxes made using a metallocene catalyst will be the area of wood plastic composites(WPC)- a fast growing application area with at least the "buzzword" character of the nanocomposites field.After having looked at the various effects of the wax additives,there is a number of other effects discussed as flame retardants,antimicrobials and coloration of wood plastic composites.The thermoplastic concentrates example chosen to show the effects of various "metallocene waxes" is the area of carbon black concentrates,sizewise comparable with color or additive concentrates.The characteristics of different grades of carbon black will be discussed,dispersing carbon black into polypropylene and the use of dispersing additives therefor will be shown in detail.The dispersion equipment and parameters influencing the quality of the final concentrate will be discussed together with quality evaluation methods.
