摘要

Even though there are so many factors that endanger pipeline safety, we can divide into three factors such as corrosion, subsidence, third-party damage. Because the damage due to third-party incidents tends to be reported not immediately, it can grow with time. If that damaged part is laid without repairing, it can lead to the gas explosion due to leakage of gas as causing corrosion. Therefore, the research into the real time monitoring of third-party damage in gas pipeline should be carried out. This paper presents propagation model and its experimental results to detect third-party damage on natural gas pipeline using acoustic detection method. The objective is to assist the Korean Gas Cooperation in evaluating, existing system, and developing new technologies for real-time monitoring for the structural condition on natural gas pipelines. Especially, this paper also involves an evaluation activity based on the modeled mathematical equations using the developed monitoring system. The evaluation is directly given by the use of full-scale field tests and it can be applied to the calculation of effective distance between two sensors which will be installed for third-party damage detection before the set-up of developed monitoring system.
