Energy storage is one of the solutions to bring flexibility to power systems. It can provide different services to the grid which include frequency regulation, energy shifting, black start, voltage support and congestion mitigation. While a lot of research has been carried out on the profitability of energy storage to supply energy shifting or frequency regulation, the possibility of solving grid constraints with storage has received less attention in terms of research works. Energy storage systems exhibit interesting features for congestion mitigation: they represent a solution that could be quickly set up and removed, as opposed to grid reinforcement. However, energy storage regulation schemes and high capital costs represent an important challenge for the deployment of this solution.
