In response to the growing demand for electricity in recent years along the coast of the Autonomous Region of Valencia and delays in processing applications for and constructing the numerous lines planned in the area to meet the new needs of the grid, IBERDROLA DISTRIBUCION ELECTRICA (IDE) conducted a study on possible short-term measures to be adopted with a view to safeguarding the supply of electricity to the area during the holiday seasons in 2002 and 2003. Maximum demand for the summers of 2002 and 2003 was estimated by taking peak demand data for summer 2001 and then increasing it by 4% and 8% respectively. Table 1 below shows the demand situation in the most critical circuits during normal operations using the connection system and in various n-1 fault hypothesis for summer 2003 and the electrical path in question (See Plan 1).
