Autogenous Vaccines: industry Proposals for Procedures and Requirements

An increasing trend can be observed in veterinary practice towards the use of herd-specific vaccines, which are often being manufactured by relatively small firms and laboratories and by veterinary practices. In herds with problematic pathogens for which no commercial vaccines are available, herd-specific vaccines are often a valuable tool and will therefore continue to play an important role in the future. It is, however, necessary to minimise the associated risks for animal health and consumer protection and to avoid negative repercussions on the development and supply of safe, high-quality vaccines.
