NEW METHODS TO IMPROVE EFFECTIVENESS IN PROCESS ANALYSIS

Process analysis and troubleshooting activities in paper mills are drawing more attention and creating a new focus for mills as they are pressured to increase their profitability. Indeed, the potential is high, but still largely untapped due to complexity of the task. This paper addresses two key issues in process analysis and performance monitoring. What is an appropriate performance index for performance monitoring and how can we pinpoint problem areas in our processes? The paper proposes new methods to address both questions with examples from production machines. Both methods are developed to improve the effectiveness in process analysis and are currently in use.
