NOTES AND OBSERVATIONS RESULTING FROM PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE GAINED IN THE OPERATION OF SMALL SIZED POWER TRIMARANS (1988-2004)

Nigel Irens Design was drawn to the idea of producing a proof-of-concept powered trimaran as a result of many years spent developing ocean racing sailing trimarans. This paper describes the experience gained during long-term operation of the resulting vessel, iLAN VOYAGER, as well as a subsequent trimaran, the record-breaking CABLE and WIRELESS ADVENTURER. Both vessels have now covered over 100,000 sea-miles in a variety of sea conditions around the world.
