A PV-Clad Duct to Preheat Supply air and Power Fans in a Mechanical Ventilation System

摘要

This paper presents a proposal to retrofit the mechanical ventilation and heating system serving two of the operational floors of the Mackintosh School of Architecture, the 3rd top floor being naturally ventilated. This is intended as a temporary demonstration of the potential for building integrated, thin-film PV to achieve a more efficient hybrid system while also improving quality. It is hoped that permanent techniques of a similar nature will then be incorporated in the replacement buildings planned for the Glasgow School of Art campus, as well as providing generic solutions for similar buildings of this period, where demolition is not considered the best option. A fundamental aim of the proposal is that it should be simple, economic and effective with strong replication potential.
