International perspective

Before I begin, let me join those who spoke before me in congratulating and thanking our Canadian hosts for the royal welcome they are giving us and for the superb facilities they are providing for this coming week. It will be difficult at times to focus on our agenda amidst this fabulous UNESCO world heritage site that is Quebec City. But the beautiful surroundings will no doubt make our tasks much more pleasant and perhaps even inspire us to reach new heights in our deliberations on the way forward. Looking back over the last 10 years, we know with certainty that forestry and the forest community have come a long way.
