摘要

Nepal is a developing country with a population of around 24 million. The country has around seven thousand registered industries of various types and sizes. Large portion of its population still depends on agriculture which contributes more than 40% to the GDP. The history of industrialization dates back to late 1930s, however the growth and expansion of industries has not been rapid. Due to controlled regime, up to late 80s, most industries were fully or partially owned by the government and very few were in the hands of private sector. After the 1980s the government shifted its development strategy from the state led development to market led open e-conomy. As a result many of the public sector industrial units were privatized in the early 1990s. With the increase participation of private investment, there has been a significant increase in the number of industries. The contribution of manufacturing industries to GDP is around 10% and has generated employment for around 3% of the working population.
