Evaluation of odor and odorants in the air exhausted 'front vacuum cleaners

Exhausted airs from several kinds of vacuum cleaners were evaluated with sensory assessment and analyzed with GC and GC/MS, Odor qualities of new vacuum cleaners were expressed as urine-like, rubber-like or milky odor. And the cleaners in use were found to emit rancid or sweet odors. Ammonia and amines were confirmed to be the potent contributors to offensive odors of new vacuum cleaners. Aldehydes and sulfur compounds were identified in odors from wastes in home and airs from in-use vacuum cleaners.
