Indoor air pollution by emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from building materials has caused a health hazard. Use of natural building materials is said to be one of the mitigation methods. But it is well known that a certain kind of natural building material emits organic chemicals. The objective of this study is to measure VOCs emissions from natural oils and waxes for 7 days, and to forecast long term emissions. VOCs from natural oils and waxes were measured by the small chamber method. Carbonyl compounds in the effluent air from the chamber were adsorbed by DNPH sampling tube, and extracted by acetonitrile, and analyzed by liquid chromatography. Other volatile organic compounds were adsorbed by tenax TA sampling tube, and analyzed by GCMS. Results as follows: l)Emission rates of AA and HA from rapeseed oil decrease with time. From perilla oil, emission rates of PA and HA decrease with time, but emission rates of BA, HAC and UND do not decrease. Emission rates of BA and VA from paulownia oil increase with time. 2)Emission rates of compounds from oils of high iodine value increase with time, and the emissions are assumed to last for a long term. 3)Emissions from waxes which contain linseed oil are assumed to last for a long term.
