In the evaluation of uncertainty, the usual approach is to write down a model equation and apply the law of propagation of uncertainty to it. However, when the measurand is a complex derived quantity, the model equation occasionally involves an inverse function that cannot be solved analytically. It is not possible to directly apply the law of propagation of uncertainty to such a situation. In this study, the uncertainty of a quantity involving an inverse function that cannot be solved analytically is evaluated by using the Monte Carlo simulation. Prior to this, we constructed a program that calculates the uncertainties of the profile deviation of gear measurement. We pick up the helix deviation measurement of the gear in this study.
