A limited number of classes of organic structures have been reported as potential candidates for electronic devices. Relevant examples include the use of conjugated molecules containing nitro redox centers to fabricate resonant tunnel junctions1, donor-acceptor molecular combinations (D+ - π -A-) for rectifiers2 and redox-active rotaxanes and catenanes as electronically configurable switches3.
