Feature parameters based on critical points (peaks, pits and saddle points) and lines (ridge and course lines) can be used to evaluate the specific characteristics of surface texture such as summit distribution, lay orientation and areal undulation. Multi-scale analysis is applicable to the combination process of segmented microscopic areas for introducing effective feature parameters. This paper describes the numerical calculation procedure of the feature parameters (area and volume below sampling distance scale) and proposes the threshold conditions for appropriate parameter values.
