Being inspired by Mathivat's concept which was later realized in the St. Remy de Maurienne bridge of extradosed bridge and Menn's Ganter bridge, Japanese engineers of highway's built Odawara bridge, followed by many. The author tried to put forward a statement of a bridge type based on mechanics logic which applies to the three categories of the bridge mentioned above in common; i.e. "prestressed concrete girder bridge with external tendons of large eccentricities". The paper describes the following; (1) Statement of mechanics logic, (2) Design of basic configuration of a bridge faithful to the mechanics logic, and optimum configuration and size of the bridge, (3) Load test on a scale model bridge, (4) Finite Element Analysis. The paper concludes that load test on a scale model bridge and finite element analysis supported the predictions used for design of the bridge.
