This paper concerns the development of a design method for composite girders with composite action consisting of steel main girders and adhesively bonded FRP (Fiber Reinforced Polymer) bridge decks. The different levels of development are presented, commencing with the requirements that an FRP deck must satisfy to function as part of the upper chord of a composite girder, through to the load deformation behaviour of such girders.
