Characterisation of cement paste for self-compacting concrete

Self-compacting concrete (SCC) homogeneously passes dense reinforcement without leaving air entrainments. The weight of the concrete is the only driving force. Thirteen different SCC mixtures were composed so as to have the same slump flow. Various tests were carried out with their pastes only, which were composed as in SCC. Additionally, the pastes were tested together with fine aggregates. This article describes an experimental study, which aims at linking components and characteristics of SCC in the fresh state.
