Scattering and attenuation of electromagnetic waves by charged sands in sandstorms

摘要

This paper presents a theoretical research on the effect of electric charge of sand on the electromagnetic wave propagation in sand medium or sandstorm which shows the effect of the electric charge on scattering and/or attenuation only when the electric charge is distributed on a partial but whole surface of a sand particle. After that, some field experimental result of the attenuation coefficient of scattering, which has not been described by the theory, is quantitatively predicted out by the modeling well. Meanwhile, some effect of sand radius, dielectric coefficient, frequency, and visibility of sand medium on the attenuation is displayed for some case parameters.
