Partial roasting is usually used as a pre-treatment of copper concentrates before smelting, and gold concentrates before cyanide leaching, to remove critical elements. The hazardous element arsenic, often found in new copper mines, can easily be removed with partial roasting. Also elements of special negative influence in the gold recovery, i.e. organic carbon, mercury, chlorides and tellu-rides, can be removed. Best example for using this technology is the new partial roasting plant for Codelco.
