COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

What is it that we call community development? How do we measure it? What is it that makes community prosper and grow? How can we influence this and make the community where we live a really good place for us? These questions have been asked repeatedly for the decades in many northern regions and communities. This paper is searching the answers for these questions. It examines evolution of concepts and measures used for the community assessment and development evaluation, and presents practical experiences from Canada's Northwest Territories and the Murmansk region of north-western Russia.
