ECOLOGICAL APPROACH TO REHABILITATION OF LANDS SUBJECTED TO AIR POLLUTION IN THE KOLA PENINSULA

摘要

The effect of Cu-Ni smelters in the Kola Peninsula on the adj acent landscape has been to severely damage the forest ecosystems. Comprehensive investigation around the most powerful in the Northern Europe sources of air pollution indicated that forest decline is associated with nutritional disturbances. On a basis of Sudbury and our experiment results we concluded that ecological approaches to rehabilitation of barren lands is more preferential than agricultural one. This approach allows us: a) to promote colonization by native plant species; b) to establish plant cover without energy- and time-consuming site preparation; c) to restore plant community with corresponded to environment structural and functional organization; d) to establish plant community tolerant to pollution; e) to establish a maintenance-free plant cover.
