摘要

PSorghum cultivar development in semi-arid Tanzania has understated the importance of heterogeneity in the farm environment. A new approach, combining farmer knowledge and on-farm involvement with field-station and controlled-environment quantification of sorghum growth, has provided baseline data on the response of cultivars to parasitic Striga species when different soil resources are available. Involving farmers and creating recommendations for the local use of the different cultivars represents a step towards empowering farmers to make informed choices in the selection of appropriate sorghums for diverse situations.
