Currently, one of the biggest challenges in the area of bone tissue regeneration has been the creation of scaffolds that have similar characteristics and composition to natural bone. β-TCP scaffolds have been successfully used as an alternative for regenerative purposes. Nonetheless, tricalcium phosphate scaffolds have low mechanical properties. In this research it was proposed the creation of a composite material with 80wt.% β-TCP and 20wt.% phosphate-based bioglass (45 P_2O_5-30 CaO (-25-X) Na_(2O)- XZrO_2 in mol %), which reinforces the β-TCP matrix and improves its mechanical properties. The scaffolds were characterized using Infrared spectrometry (FT-IR), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) with EDS and pH measurements. Additionally, SBF experiments were carried out at various immersion times of of 7, 14, 21 and 28 days. The result samples showed morphological and structural hydroxyapatite formation. Finally, pre-osteoblast MC3T3-E1 subcloned 4 cell, were used to evaluate cell adhesion and proliferation, and it was demonstrated that the material shows good biocompatibility and osteoconductivity.
