Combined removal of oil, toxic heavy metals and arsenic from polluted soil

The bioremediation of soils polluted with crude oil products is largely used on commercial scale in several countries. Different in situ and ex situ techniques using both indigenous and laboratory-bred microorganisms are used [1-2]. These techniques are also used for bioremediation of soils polluted with toxic heavy metals and arsenic [3-4]. However, the microorganisms involved in the removal of the different pollutants as well as the mechanisms of removal are different. For that reason, the treatment of soils polluted with both organic (oil and oil products) and inorganic (heavy metals and arsenic) pollutants is of special interest.
