摘要

This paper describes attempts at Imperial College to combine teaching of the science and engineering of high temperature materials to an acceptable depth of understanding with an appreciation of the engineering and commercial drivers. The scale of the gas turbine industry, its rapid response to new developments and the interdisciplinary nature of the industrial R&D make it a particularly appropriate case study to demonstrate the interdependence of the different engineering specialties.
