Higher safety requirements in the transportation industry promote research on new materials with improved crashworthiness and the ability to maintain the desired mechanical properties. The investigations covered rods extruded by CRE from rapidly solidified ribbons made of 6xxx series aluminum alloy with vanadium addition. The paper presents the results of microstructure examinations and mechanical tests carried out on an alloy with 0.2 wt% vanadium addition. The extruded rods were also tested for their ability to absorb kinetic energy. The subject of discussion was the effect of various process parameters, including die temperature and speed of rotating wheel, on the final physical properties of rods. The research showed that it is possible to make rods from 6xxx aluminum alloy containing vanadium by the process of Continuous Rotary Extrusion (CRE) using feedstock in the form of ribbons obtained in the process of Rapid Solidification (RS).
