Interaction of two adjacent man-made islands on soft ground

When two man-made islands are constructed close to each other in comparison of their plane dimension, an interaction of these two islands might cause any influence to the deformation of the islands. FEM analysis has been frequently applied to investigate the behavior of ground deformation. However, this kind of problem is relatively new problem. Further research efforts are required to investigate the interaction of these islands and to evaluate the deformation with relatively high accuracy. In this study, a series of centrifuge model tests and FEM analyses was carried out to investigate the influence of the islands to the deformation of the ground.
