Global steelmakers face many challenges in reducing energy intensity in the steel manufacturing process. This paper will address results from installations of the Goodfellow EFSOP~(TM) system. This process control system uses continuous extraction and analysis of EAF off-gases to optimize energy efficiency within the furnace. The benefits to steelmakers are increased process knowledge, lower conversion costs, increased productivity and improved safety. This paper will focus on different optimization methods implemented and savings achieved from actual plant operations. These savings have resulted in simple payback of project costs within a few months.
