摘要

A birefringent effect for linearly polarised photons in the 20-170 GeV energy range was investigated for photon aligned incidence on diamond and germanium crystals. The polarised photons were also incident on an aligned crystal acting as a quarter wave plate to investigate the conversion of linear polarisation to circular polarisation. A new polarimetry technique based on birefringence was demonstrated.
