The profitability of nearly all heavy industrial plants world wide is on a critical path. Plant closings, mergers and takeovers of plants are making frequent news. In order to survive and to save jobs, pipe mills also have to analyze their present processes and look for methods of high productivity and throughput. The clear goal is to reduce cost. In order to achieve this task, it becomes necessary to develop new ways to sever continuous cast billets for the pipe manufacturing and subsequent cutting the pipes to length, efficiently and economically. The emphasis is productivity, throughput and low tooling cost.
