Making a Claim That a Garment Fabric is UV Protective

In the United States as elsewhere,documents have been written that guide the labeling of textiles for which a UV-protection claim is,or will be,made.Three such U.S.documents include two by ASTM International and one by the AATCC.Each document covers an important step in the process of making a UV-protection claim.The documents-ASTM D6544,AATCC Test Method 183,and ASTM D6603-lead a user through major steps in a logical order,but the user has to study ASTM D6603 and formulate a plan based on information it provides before following directions provided in ASTM D6544.The purpose of this manuscript is,therefore,to set forth an overall plan for using the three U.S.UV-protection standards.
