This paper concerns practicable technique to determine the sensor location where the sensor(s) can detect the defect of bearings installed in a machine efficiently. In this paper, the characteristic of the vibration transfer is applied for this purpose. A proposed method is based that the transmissibility of signal by defect is almost same as the impulse signal: i.e. The response of the vibration by bearing defect and the impulse response between bearing and housing are correlation. By the experimental results, the authors show a practical procedure to determine the number and the locations of sensors.
