Long wave theory was employed to examine the deformations of ultra-thin but continuum liquid films produced by applied pressures and shearing stresses. As the deformations are usually very small, two types of linearized long wave equations were derived and employed to predict the steady-state and two dimensional liquid surface deformations caused by shearing stress and by the inclined slider air bearing.
