This paper presents case histories for three compacted soil liner projects. Each one has unique features thataffected the design, construction and quality control of the liners. These sites were recently designed and constructed byNRCS engineers. The liners were constructed for use as low permeability seepage barriers for Animal Waste Storage Ponds(AWSP). Soil amendments consisting of bentonite and a soil dispersant, soda ash, were used on two sites , and one siteconsisted only of compacted clay soil. This paper discusses the theory and relationships of the pre-design soil mechanicstesting program along with post construction quality control test results and issues and concerns for each of the three linersystems.
