This paper describes a new method for browsing through a set of documents in an Information Retrieval (IP) framework The approach is to use the existing OLAP (On-line Analytical Processing) tools in order to support advanced IR capabilities, including the Wordnet categories. These capabilities are directly embedded into the multidimensional model of these tools. The system also includes provisions for interactive techniques such as proposing word senses or synonyms to the end-users when selecting appropriate categories. The paper also describes a prototype system that uses MS Analysis Manager to handle hierarchical dimensions found in typical document collections.
