It is possible to make hand delivered medical/cosmetic laser equipment inherently safe

Now that the laser is past its 50th birthday, it is interesting to examine the maturity of laser safety, it is perhaps fair to compare it with the development of safety side in the x-ray business, this took about 40 years to mature. In the industrial sector it is fair to say that the safety side of laser equipment is now also relatively mature. It is therefore curious to compare the skin surface medical approach which still relies primarily with a safety goggle solution. Comparing this with the medical X-ray side of business a PPE approach has not been valid for many years, why therefore does it still exists for the medical community, not for the industrial sector? In this paper two solutions are offered as a strategy to provide greater utility, higher performance and significant cost saving.
