PV: (do we need) breakthrough technology or BST?

摘要

Photovoltaic solar energy is generally considered an important long-term renewable (sustainable) energy option. Although it is probably easy to agree with this view, it is not clear at all what the implications for today's policies and concrete actions should be. Governments, companies, researchers and others appear to draw almost opposite conclusions. This short paper discusses the development of PV by looking at the historic trends and by following laboratory results on their way to large-scale implementation in installed photovoltaic systems.
