1. A new design procedure is presented for Heat Recovery Systems where some of the process streams are subject to pressure change (compression and expansion). 2. The main novelty of this procedure is that exergy considerations are made at the conceptual stage of design. 3. The heat cascade and composite curves from Pinch Analysis have been extended to an exergy cascade and a new Exergy Diagram (Exergetic Temperature). 4. An important design tool is the novel Extended Grid Diagram, where heat exchange, compression and expansion are represented together. 5. The process design methodology is particularly useful for processes operating below and across ambient temperature and consist of five major steps.
