Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) are prepared by catalytic decomposition of methane over Co-Mo/MgO support. The catalysts were prepared by a combustion synthesis method. Different ligand agents or additives (EDTA, Tartaric acid, Citric acid and Sorbitol) are used in this stage to increase the surface area and porosity of the catalyst. Methane decomposition at 1000°C over catalyst surface produced carbon nanotubes with single and multi-wall structure. The best experimental condition could result in carbon yield of 400% and high quality SWCNT with the controlled diameter of 1 to 4 nm. Among ligand agents used in the present study, sorbitol is found to have very high effect on the production of singlewalled carbon nanotube in the final product.
