The paper focuses on the use of DC-electrokinetic and DC-dielectrophoretic (DC-DEP) principles to control and sort particles in the PDMS modified H-filter with embedded multi-dielectric blocks. The dielectric blocks locally generate a nonuniform electric field, creating the DC-DEP force. Experiments were conducted using particles of 15 and 30 ?m in diameter under applied voltages ranging from 100V-180V. The results showed that the applied voltage controls the particle motion. Particle separation is achieved at an applied threshold voltage. As a particle size decreases, its threshold voltage also decreases. Multi-blocks yield the particle separation with a lower threshold voltage. In addition, the velocity field was also investigated experimentally by the micro-PIV technique and numerically by COMSOL software.
