A mechanism and power assist function of one hand drive wheelchair with a triple ring

In recent years, various wheelchairs have been developed for persons who can use only one-hand. In this paper, we propose a mechanism of one hand drive wheelchair with a triple ring. An outer ring is used for right-turn, an inner ring is used for left-turn and, by using a center ring, the wheelchair go straight. For long distance drive or slope drive of this wheelchair, the assistance of power is effective. Therefore, the power assist function is added to the experimental model. The validity of a power assist function has been demonstrated by slope drive experiment.
