Concrete which is exposed to a dry ambient condition at an early age may exhibit surface cracks. These cracks are believed to be influenced by many physical and chemical mechanisms, namely moisture diffusion, heat conduction, hydration, etc. In this study, an attempt has been made to examine the cracking behavior as well as to implement the effects of moisture diffusion, heat conduction and hydration into a numerical simulation model. The simulation results are compared to the experimental data on restrained shrinkage cracking with a ring-type specimen.
