A Reference Design for a USB 2.0 to SCSI Peripheral

The newly emerging USB 2.0 interface standard hits performance levels of up to 40 times those of the previous USB 1.1 standard. At these performance levels high-speed storage, and peripherals can now be quickly and easily added to personal computers and embedded systems. Removable drives, digital cameras, scanners, CD and DVD drives, and many types of digital video products can now take advantage of the increased performance of the USB 2.0 interface. A reference design for a USB 2.0 to SCSI interface has been created using the Cypress USB 2.0 transceiver and the Xilinx Spartan-IIE FPGA. A USB 2.0 controller core from the Mentor Graphics Inventra FPGA IP Core library is used to implement the USB 2.0 controller in the FPGA. The paper will describe the features and functionality of the design as well as the size, performance and cost of the final circuit board implementation. This Reference Design will be demonstrated in the Reference Design Village.
