Today the engineer can choose among various simulation tools to optimize the comfort of cars. However the interaction between man and seat is often modelled using simple spring-damper combinations. Such models allow only for a rough approximation of the system, they are not sufficient to optimize the comfort of seats. To this end, Johnson Controls has developed the simulation package COSYMAN, which comprises tools and methods of multibody systems, biomechanics, ergonomics, and finite element technology.
