The FDDI network of 100 Mbps has been installed on the Training Ship Fukae-maru. The ship LAN has been equipped with the various sensors by which it is possible to collect the sailing data through the sequencer. The authors have proposed a system to transfer the sailing data, which were measured with the sensors using this feature, and to utilize these data via the LAN system. The data include many items such as the heading, speed, the position by the D-GPS (Differential GPS), the rudder angle, etc. In this paper, it is explained that how the system works to support docking and undocking the berth. The system can estimate the situation of the ship in the near future to advance from the heading and the D-GPS position which is obtained by the sailing data acquisition and transfer system, and it displays estimated position and heading by the graphics. Because the captain handling a ship can imagine the change of the ship's motion easily, our system is useful to inform the captain the appropriate updated manoeuvring data in harbour. We introduce the technique to estimate the ship's motion in the near future simply by extrapolation using the least squares approximation from the data in the past. The method is simple and fast to calculate. The system displays both, the past and the estimated data as two-dimensional graphics in the window of the laptop PC. The display is updated every second.
