Auswahl und Betrieb von mechanischen Geraten in staubexplosionsgefahrdeten Bereichen - Auswirkungen der Europaischen Richtlinien zum Explosionsschutz

As a consequence of the Directive 94/9/EC which defines the requirements for electrical and non-electrical ("mechanical") equipment intended for use in explosive atmospheres there on principle is a demand for harmonized standards for mechanical equipment. The development of these standards is the task of the Working Group 2 of CEN/TC 305 "Explosive Atmospheres - Explosion Prevention and Protection". Since 1994, CEN/TC 305/WG 2 has been engaged in generating standards with requirements for mechanical equipment. The series of standards produced, the EN 13463-series, sets out the different ignition protection concepts for mechanical equipment. The first version of the EN 13463-1, "Basic Methods and Requirements" was published in 2001 and is under revision. This paper discusses the revised standard EN 13463-1, and points out the advantages of the new EN 13463-1 compared to the initially released version and offers practical solutions to the user of mechanical equipment in the interior of processing plants ("process-equipment").
