Electrochemical reduction of ferrocenylfullero[C6|)]pyrrolidine in toluene/acetonilrile (4:1, v:v) solution in the presence of [Pd(acetate)_2]_3, [Pt(μ-C1)Cl(C_2H_4)]_2 or Ir(CO)_2Cl(p-toluidine) produces redox-active dark films thai coat the electrode. The polymeric network is formed via covalcnt bonds between metal atoms and fullerene moieties. Ferrocene is linked to the polymeric chains through pyrrolidine rings. Films exhibit electrochemicnl activity both in positive and negative potential ranges. Oxidation of ferrocene groups is accompanied by transfer of anions at the solution/film interface and inside the solid phase. The transport of the supporting electrolyte cations is involved in the process of fullerene moiety reduction. Films exhibit higher permeability lo (he anion than to tile cations. A substantial influence of the spacer connecting f'ullercne cages has been also observed. Films formed by the reduction in acetonitrilc/toluenc containing ferrocenylfullero[C|i0]pyrroliclme and [Pd(acetale)]]i exhibit the most reversible redox properties in positive and negative potential ranges.
