Edge crack defect of hot rolling strip was analyzed by using optical microscope and scanning electron microscopy. The inheritance of transverse corner cracking in slab resulted mainly in edge crack. The slim crack defect was formed by the folds forced in the surface which was generated by the over cooling and homogeneity of edge and corner elongation in rolling process. The adoption of the casting of slow cooling in CCM, improve mould slag, constant speed, reduce cooling of rough rolling and edge reduction could effectively suppressed the edge crack defect of hot rolling strip.
