"Minimized charge" systems are designed for low leakage and will almost by definition require accurate charges and adjustments for good performance and reliability. This paper refers to more than 15 years experience of development and use of specialized equipment, with integrated logging and calculation of COP, capacities, compressor efficiencies and service parameters, based on analyzing the refrigeration circuit. This has shown that there are often 10-30% energy savings possible in refrigeration systems. Improved service has also reduced service costs. It has been identified that charge as well as adjustments of expansion valves are frequently incorrect in spite of annual service requirement. To systematically and accurately analyse the refrigerant circuit detects small leaks, allows optimization of charge, expansion valve adjustments as well as early detection of poor compressor efficiency or fouled heat exchangers. Experiences of the "Refrigeration Analyzer" in production, for commissioning, servicing and trouble shooting are presented.
